Rwanda announced the severing of diplomatic relations with Belgium, accusing the country of being an EU member in the "sawdust" of Kigali.
According to the government of Rwanda, the rupture of relations is related to the fact that Belgium has been advocating for the representation of the interests of its citizens in European courts regarding the activities of Rwandan officials, who have been accused of crimes related to corruption and human rights violations.
"Rwanda is confident that Belgium has violated the principles of mutual respect that underpin diplomatic relations between countries and considers such actions to be hostile and unfriendly," said the spokesperson of the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
