Rwanda Considers Hosting US Deported Migrants

Rwanda is in talks with the US about the possibility of accepting migrants deported by Trump's administration, following the cancellation of a previous deal with the UK.

Rwanda Considers Hosting US Deported Migrants

Rwanda is evaluating the possibility of hosting migrants deported by the United States, according to statements from Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe. This discussion arose after the previously established migration plan with the United Kingdom was canceled.

Nduhungirehe noted: "We are having ongoing talks with the United States about possible arrangements for the deportation of migrants to Rwanda." The minister explained that this situation arises following the interruption of the refugee hosting program that had been agreed upon with the United Kingdom last year.

Rwanda had reached an agreement with the United Kingdom to host refugees who were in Libya, but this initiative was suspended in 2019. In this sense, the Rwandan government is seeking other alternatives and has begun discussions with the United States in this regard.

So far, no further details have been provided about the ongoing negotiations between Rwanda and the United States regarding the possible transfer of migrants deported by the Trump administration to the African country.
